The presence of MILLAH religious study journal amidst people aims at serving as the media of constructive and conceptual study of religious issues in addition to particularly be the media of the materialization of the vision and mission of the Master of Islamic Study and Indonesia Islamic University in general.
The identity of “MILLAH” is quoted from verse 78 of al-Qur’an Surah al-Hajj: “… Allah S.W.T. do not make the religion burden for you, which is religion of your father Abraham …” Etymologically, MILLAH means religion, while contextually MILLAH religious study journal represents a scientific journal on religion in its broad sense.
MILLAH religious study has experienced much advancement and made an encouraging achievement. It is evidenced by the achievement of the superior accreditation by the Dikti. Using the success as the point of the departure, the management of the journal has a strong willingness to maintain the achievement and even to achieve more by the internationalization program.
The secretariat of the journal is in the campus of UII Demangan Baru, Yogyakarta, precisely at Jl. Demangan Baru, No. 24, 2nd Floor, Yogyakarta. The property belongs to Badan Wakaf UII.
The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) of the journal is 1412-0992 issued on August 2nd, 2001 based on the decree of Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia Number 18.323.IV.3.05/ISSN/2001. The General Director of the Higher Education of the Department of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia declared in 2004 that the journal was accredited A on the Decree Number 39/DIKTI/Kep/2004.
The vision of MILLAH religious study journal is “To academically be one of the main references in the area of religious study both in national and international setting.” The vision will be regularly and gradually materialized. It can be clearly observed in the development of the journal from one issue to another. The indicators of the development of the materialization of the vision are:
The involvement of international expert partners. There have been some international expert partners who involved in the publishing processof the journal till its sixth year. They are Taha Jabir Al Alwani from IIIT, M. Umer Chapra from IDB, Ibrahim Abu Bakar and Abdurrahman Hj. Abdullah from Kebangsaan University Malaysia, and Donna Runnals from Mc Gill Canada;
There are two languages used in the writings, which are United Nation languages (Arabic and English) and also Indonesian; and
The distribution of the journal has crossed national boundaries.
The mission of MILLAH religious study journal is “To serve as the enlightening media of religions study in solving social-religious problems.” Various efforts in materializing the mission are recorded in each of the published issues. The themes of each edition of the journal reflect the commitment to find the best way out of the problems in the dynamics of humanity with their social-religious dimensions.
The publication of the journal aims at maintaining the commitment of the institution to the science with which it is grappling. Therefore, it tends to be an attempt to establish an institutional image. The presence of a scientific journal in higher education represents an effort to enhance the image and the scientific commitment of the institution in socializing brilliant ideas. That way, a science may develop in answering the need and the ever changing era. In this case, a scientific journal is not merely a training means for the human resources of a higher education institution, but it is rather the means to develop and to actualize self in the spirit of scientific commitment that has become the part of its life.
